MANILA, Philippines -- An overseas Filipino worker was robbed of around P500,000 worth of jewelry by a taxi driver as she was about to check in at a hotel in Roxas Boulevard, Manila, Sunday morning.

Juanita Bujia Guino-o, a caregiver in United Kingdom, told Manila police that she was unloading her luggage from a Masterway taxi with plate no. TWM-353 upon arrival at the Bayview Park Hotel, when it suddenly sped off around 9:35 a.m. She said the suspect left quickly knowing that one of her bags was still inside the back compartment.

The victim had just flown in from her native Masbate when she boarded the taxi with her brother-in-law at the Manila Domestic Airport in Paranaque.

Guino-o said the cab was among those lined up for passengers, but was not an accredited airport taxi.

The suitcase contained jewelry such as a jade ring and necklace, a diamond wedding ring, gold and pearl bracelets, a set of emerald and diamond earrings, a Swatch ladies watch, plus personal effects amounting to P500,000.

PO2 Marlon San Pedro of MPD's Theft and Robbery division said they already issued an alarm to the Anti-Carnapping unit for the suspect's capture.
