VICE President Noli de Castro on Saturday reminded overseas Filipino workers to respect the laws of their host country to protect their lives and jobs, as well as prevent diplomatic problems. De Castro, who is also presidential adviser on OFWs, said the case of the seven murder suspects in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, should remind workers of the values of self-restraint and obedience to laws.

He urged the Department of Foreign Affairs to assist the 52 Filipinos rounded up by the Jeddah police last week in connection with the murder of three individuals, possibly also OFWs.

Speaking in De Castro’s “Para Sa Iyo Bayan” public service program on dzMM, Pedro Chan, executive director of DFA Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs, said the seven OFWs had admitted to involvement in the murder.

Chan said that while 10 more had been released from detention, more suspects were being arrested.

The DFA official said Saudi police had established that the dismemberment of bodies believed to be those of three missing OFWs was connected to the operation of the illegal numbers game jueteng and fake phone cards.
