THE Department of Labor and Employment said 14 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) imprisoned in Kuwait were granted amnesty by the Kuwaiti government on the occasion of Kuwait’s Liberation Day last February 26.

Labor Secretary Patricia Sto. Tomas said the 14 OFWs were serving sentence on various crimes they committed in the course of their employment in Kuwait.

The OFWs were convicted for such crimes as falsification of documents, drugs, theft, drunkenness, and extramarital relationships.

Kuwait-based Labor Attache Leopoldo De Jesus said the OFWs are now staying at the Sulabiya Central Jail in Kuwait while waiting for their return to the Philippines.
